2010-09-01 – Frankfurt am Main/Köln: The new ‘sicherheit-im-brandfall.de’ website, founded by ZVEI Kabelverband, goes live today on the World Wide Web. Through this innovative web project, ZVEI Kabelverband aims to direct electrical industry professionals, European and National Authorities and end-users towards safer buildings during a fire scenario.

The new website features accurate scientific content and answers to a wide variety of tough questions about cables exposed to fire and the European Construction Product Directive applied to cables.

This wide range of readily available information will satisfy online visitors’ information needs, regardless of their level of knowledge of Low Fire-Hazard Cables. Safe Living is an important issue which is directly related to the fire performance of all installed products.

The fire performance of a cable is critical in fire safety engineering and many end users are not aware of this. In many countries, Building Regulations don't advise on the cable's fire properties.

The selection of a fire safety product is a consequence of correct information being provided to the decision makers and be enhanced by national regulations. All actors in the decision chain can keep themselves informed through consulting the website.

Resources on www.sicherheit-im-brandfall.de include a news directory, scientific library, applications directory and FAQ.

News

The most commonly identified cause of death from a fire incident is being overcome by gas or smoke, which accounts for 44% of all deaths. In 1950, the average time from ignition of a fire to flashover was 15 minutes. Now fatal conditions can occur after 3 minutes.

The “News Directory” is organized to provide quick and direct access to many relevant documents about Low Fire-Hazard cables application and new Fire Regulations on cables and fire incidents.

FAQ on Smoke and Acidity and CPDs.

Why are smoke and acidity not considered important issues by the public or the engineering sector? Is it possible today to buy a “CPD compliant” cable? The FAQ section provides detailed and comprehensive answers to over 25 frequent questions about cable related matters

Scientific Library

This database of scientific knowledge features several papers of prominent fire experts. Topics range from the hazards of combustion products, acidity, FTIR techniques and escape simulations of fires generated by cables. Papers are freely downloadable from the site, where you can also access author profiles and references.

Applications and References

This area provides information about relevant buildings which have adopted Low Fire-Hazard cables. The application sheets are organised by categories of fire hazard buildings due to critical escape conditions. These include hospitals and retirement homes, shopping centres, schools and recreational buildings, and museums and historical buildings. This smart hierarchical organisation allows visitors to browse through each family.

Visitors

‘Sicherheit im Brandfall’ visitors include electrical industry professionals (designers and installers), firemen, European and Local Authorities, political representatives, trade unions, consumer associations, electrical wholesalers and professional associations.

Content Team and Updating of the Site
